Portuguese law, with every quote checked.
Legislation, case law and AI research that answers only from the official sources and checks every quotation against the stored text.
Check everything at the source.
A legal answer is only as good as its sources. Lex always shows where each quotation comes from, and checks it against the official text.
Every quote, checked
Every quotation in an answer is compared with the official text stored in Lex. If it doesn't match, it is flagged and never shown as a citation.
The official link, always
Every document links to its official page, in the Diário da República, DGSI or the source it came from, so you can verify it in one click.
Copied from the official sources
Lex copies the texts from the official sources and keeps them up to date, with each article's history and its earlier versions.
Lex checks the words quoted, not the interpretation. Answers are written by artificial intelligence and can be wrong: always check the official sources before you use an answer.
The sources
- Diário da República
- Codes, with each article's history
- DGSI: STJ, Relações, STA…
- Bills in Parliament
- EU law and the CJEU
- Ireland
- United Kingdom
- Luxembourg
- US: federal and some states
- More coming
From question to source, in three steps.
Lex's AI research answers only from the sources it found, and every quotation it makes is checked against the stored text.
-
Step 1
Ask
Write the question as you would ask a colleague and choose the effort: Concise (short and to the point), Medium (everyday) or Think hard (deep research).
-
Step 2
Lex searches and answers
It searches legislation and case law and answers only from what it found, with the sources cited in the answer itself.
-
Step 3
Verify
See which quotations were checked, open the article or decision cited and follow the link to the official page.
Made for people who work with the law.
For lawyers, in-house counsel, researchers and law students: the law and the case law in one place, with your research organised.
Codes kept current
The codes kept up to date, with each article's history and earlier versions, so you can see what changed and when.
The decisions citing the article
On each article, the decisions that cite it, with binding uniformity rulings (AUJ) first.
What is on its way
Bills before Parliament that would change a code are shown alongside it.
Know what changed
News of what changed in the law and the case law. Follow what matters to you and get notifications on your phone or in the browser.
Highlights and notes
Highlight passages and write notes on the text of the law and the decisions.
Topics, sharing and a library
Organise your research into topics, share them with colleagues and keep your own works in a personal library, private to your account.

Frequently asked questions.
Does Lex give legal advice?
No. Lex is a legal research and legal information tool. ALMA is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. Answers are generated by artificial intelligence from Lex's sources, are not reviewed by people, and may contain errors or omissions or be out of date. Always check the official sources before you use an answer and, for a specific case, consult a lawyer or solicitor. The details are in the Terms of Use.
Where do my questions go?
Lex's answers are written by AI models hosted on Cloudflare's network (Workers AI), in the Cloudflare account of ALMA where Lex is hosted. Cloudflare does not use that data to train models, and neither does ALMA. We show no ads and sell no personal data. It is all explained in the Privacy Policy.
Can I use Lex on the web and on my phone?
Yes. Lex works in the browser at lex.alma.dev, on a computer and on a phone. The app for iPhone, iPad and Mac is coming soon to the App Store. It is the same account everywhere, and a plan bought in the App Store works on the web too.
How do credits work?
Credits pay for AI answers; reading, searching and annotating use none. Each answer uses credits according to the effort: Concise uses fewer, Think hard more. A plan's credits start again each month, and those you don't use don't carry over. Extra credit packs never expire.
Is there a plan for students?
Yes: Lex Estudante, with 150 credits a month for €4.99. It is suggested for students, but we ask for no proof: anyone may choose it.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Plans are bought in the App Store, and Apple is the seller: a subscription is managed and cancelled in your Apple account settings. Deleting your Lex account does not cancel the subscription.
